 Call for Proposals

The editors of the Ohio Social Studies Review, a peer-reviewed journal, issue a call to submit manuscripts for the Spring 2010 issue, which is scheduled for a March publication.

Theme: Global Education
Last year Governor Ted Strickland issued a proclamation to celebrate International Education Week, which will once again be celebrated November 16-20, 2009. In his proclamation, Strickland emphasized the importance of preparing Ohio students for a global economy. Many Ohio schools are seriously considering the degree to which they are preparing students for the interconnected world of the 21st century. International Education prepares Ohio citizens to live, work, and participate in the global economy. To acknowledge the importance of international education, schools in Ohio and across the nation are providing opportunities for students to become globally competent and culturally sensitive as well as fluent in foreign languages.

In view of this call, we welcome manuscripts, especially those co-authored by researchers and practitioners, on how social studies can contribute towards helping students become globally aware. Against the background of decisions by the Ohio legislature that will impact the social studies, we also welcome “viewpoint” manuscripts on how we as a profession should respond. The Ohio Social Studies Review is especially directed at OCSS membership, comprised in large part of practicing classroom teachers; therefore, manuscripts that focus on practical applications of International Education will be preferred.

Submission Guidelines
Submissions from all social studies disciplines as well as from interdisciplinary perspectives are welcome. Each submission will be refereed using a double-blind peer review process. Submit manuscripts as a file attachment to the Executive Director at: doppen@ohio.edu.
