Executive Editor:

The Executive Editor’s responsibilities include:

Select the Editorial board members

Evaluate the performance of the Editorial

Preview and distribute submissions for

Consult with the Co-editor to accept or
reject reviewed articles

The Co-editor’s
responsibilities include:

Follow up with reviewers to ensure timely
completion

Consult with the Executive Editor to
accept or reject reviewed articles

Supervise editorial assistant
copy-editing and production of galley proofs

Oversee final production
Editorial Assistant:

The Editorial Assistant’s
responsibilities will be to:

Provide administrative support for the
editors

Produce galley proofs

Communicate with authors regarding
pre-production

Oversee distribution and subscriptions

Prepare and send notification letters
Editorial Board
The Editorial Board shall
be composed of one teacher from each of the licensure area, one
representative of the Ohio Department of Education, and one
representative of Ohio Council for the Social Studies Executive
Board.
The Editorial Board
members will be selected by the Executive Editor for a
three-year term. They will meet bi-annually with the Executive
Editor and the Co-editor. Their responsibilities will be to:

Self-designate as either Research,
Practice, or Special Features editors
-
Finalize article selections for their
chosen content areas
-
Evaluate the editors
-
Critique the journal and its review
process
-
Do long-term planning
-
Discuss special features
-
Discuss financial issues
-
Nominate reviewers
-
Recommend authors and recruit submissions
for their chosen content area
Review Board
The Review Board shall be
composed of teachers and professors nominated by the Editorial
Board. It will consist of 8 members, 4 professors and 4
teachers. The Peer Review Board will be responsible for
reviewing articles in accordance with OSSR guidelines within
four weeks. Initially, the Review Board will consist of the
following members of the OCSS Higher Education SIG:

Frequency
The Ohio Social Studies Review will be published
bi-annually during the fall and spring. The Fall issue will be
open submission, the Spring issue will be a special issue.
Indexing/Abstracting
The Ohio Social Studies
Review will be indexed or abstracted in Current Contents:
Social and Behavioral Sciences, Current Index to Journals in
Education, Education Index, Educational Administration
Abstracts, Multicultural Education Abstracts, Sociological
Abstracts, and Sociology of Education Abstracts.
Submission Guidelines
Submissions form all
social studies disciplines as well as from interdisciplinary
perspectives are welcome. Each submission will be refereed using
a double-blind peer review process. Submit manuscripts as a file
attachment to the Executive Director at:
doppen@ohio.edu
Manuscripts must conform
to the following in order to be sent for peer review:

Material must be original, accurate, meet
submission guidelines, and not under consideration.

All manuscripts must be submitted in
Microsoft .doc or .docx format.
-
Style must conform to the Publication
Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th
edition).
-
Use Times New Roman, size 12 font, double
spaced.
-
If graphics are used, use .gif or .jpg
file formats embedded in the text.
-
Recommended manuscript length is 1,500 to
5,000 words, excluding references.
-
Following the title page, include an
abstract of 200 words or less.
-
At the end of the manuscript, include a
biographical sketch of each author of 50 words or less.
· Submit
your manuscript with an email message indicating that it has not
been published elsewhere, is not under consideration for
publication elsewhere, and that copyright will be given to the
Ohio Social Studies Review should it be accepted for
publication.
Copyright: The
Ohio Social Studies Review will retain the copyright of all
published items.
Notification: The
journal editors will acknowledge receipt of your manuscript and
make every effort to complete the blind review process within
eight weeks.
Subscription
The Ohio Social Studies
Review is a membership benefit.
