The Ohio Council for the Social Studies
presents numerous awards annually at its state conference. The awards are
intended to recognize and honor outstanding Social Studies educators throughout
Ohio. This year's conference will run April 10 through 12, 2008 at the
Holiday Inn Hotel in Worthington. Awards will be presented at a luncheon on
Saturday, April 12th.
OCSS provides awards in the
following categories:
Primary Teacher of the Year (K-2)
Intermediate Teacher of the Year (3-5)
Middle School/Junior High
School Teacher of the Year (6-8/9)
High School Teacher of the Year (9-12)
Professional Educator of
the Year
Presidential Scholarship
(Student Teacher Award)
Classroom teacher winners receive a plaque,
a year's membership in OCSS, a cash award, and publicity in their hometown
newspaper. The Professional Educator of the Year receives a plaque, a year's
membership in OCSS, and publicity in his or her hometown newspaper.
The criteria are simple. OCSS wants to honor
those social studies educators who demonstrate outstanding dedication, skill,
intelligence, and caring in the practice of their art.
Teacher of the year nominees should be Ohio
classroom educators currently teaching in the grade level for which they are
nominated. Nominees should exemplify excellence in the teaching of social
studies skills and content, and their colleagues should recognize them as
exceptional social studies practitioners.
Professional Educator of the Year nominees
may be administrators, college educators, or other social studies professionals
who have made a significant contribution to the field of social studies, and who
are recognized by their colleagues as outstanding statewide leaders.
